About Summer League

Summer League Overview

Players pound the turf in Summer League.

BFHA sponsors a Summer Club League that offers competitive weekly play for adults (both men and women). Registration is open to all Adults.

We referee our own games, which lowers the cost of the season. Summer League offers the chance to play on a team with new and old friends.

We play at Roland Park Country School in Baltimore on their new turf fields (they have two turf fields). Summer League is a great opportunity to play with old friends, make new friends, and improve your hockey skills on turf. Summer League is also a great time to try new positions and get a feel for what it takes to play each line.

Summer League is a great opportunity to play with old friends, make new friends, and improve your skills on turf.

There are five teams with approximately 20 people per team. The larger number accounts for players missing weeks due to vacations, college players that head back to school before Summer League ends, etc. Each team is assigned a color and players provide their own shirt. Teams are assigned in late May and players are notified by email. Each team nominates a captain that helps organize the team during the season.

Each week there is a round robin of play. The team sitting out the current game provides referees to the two games in play. Teams play four games per night and referee one game per night. The team sitting out must provide four officials - two refs for the upper field and two refs for the lower field. Each game is approximately 20 minutes in length, no half time - we play straight through, which works fine, given the number of players per team (each team should have plenty of subs). Occasionally we may need to shorten games if we have delayed the start time of the evening due to announcements, etc.

We play ten field players and a goalie; each team is assigned at least one goalie.

2010 Wrap Up

The league ran every Wednesday from June 2, 2010 to August 4, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm EST.

Thank you to all players for a great summer, and we hope to see you for Fall League!
