Heart for Hockey
Overview
On February 28, 2010 BFHA sponsored "Heart for Hockey" in honor of Heart Health month. "Heart for Hockey" was similar to the "Play for the Cure" Day that BFHA sponsored during the Fall 2009 League.
The "Heart for Hockey" activities spanned all three indoor leagues. Players wore red to show their support of the cause. BFHA held a contest to see who was the 'most redded out' participant from each league. Winners received prizes. Winners for each league:
- High School League: Courtney Sherinsky, East Side Girls Team
- Adult Pick Up League: Mike Fells
- Adult Team League: Jenny Hughes
BFHA also sold $1 tribute hearts which BFHA members filled out in support or memory of someone who has fought heart disease. The hearts were hung around the gym. BFHA also sold $2 "Hockey for Heart" shirts. $1 went to the American Heart Association and the second $1 to BFHA to cover a portion of the shirt cost.
BFHA also donated $5 to the American Heart Association for each goal scored during the Adult Pick Up and Adult Team Leagues. Donations were $328. The number of goals between Adult Pick Up and Team Leagues were 82 goals. So at $5 a goal, that is $410. For a grand total of $738!
Thank you to all BFHA members that showed their support of this important cause!
