The The Baltimore Field Hockey Association's fall league is our busiest and most structured season of the year, but that only adds to the fun! As with all of our seasons, all experience levels are invited and encouraged to participate. The fall league begins in late August and runs through mid-November, and offers players two levels of participation: Fall Clubs and Association play.
Fall Clubs is organized much like the other seasons, in that you play once a week. Club play is held every Sunday at the Friends School in Baltimore, from noon until 2:15 pm. The unique characteristic of the fall season is that the four teams keep the same rosters year after year. Therefore, each year new players are assigned by the Club Chairperson to one of the four teams, and will play with that same team every fall. Every Sunday, each team plays the other three club teams, and at the end of the season a club championship tournament is held with rankings determined by each team's win-loss record throughout the season.
For those players interested in a more competitive playing environment, BFHA also offers Association play. For Association play, BFHA typically has one or two teams that practice together and compete in tournaments throughout the MD, VA, PA, and DC region. These tournaments are held throughout the fall on Saturdays and/or Sundays. Please note that to be eligible for Association play, players must also participate in Club play. Another aspect
of Association play is sectional play. In order to field a very competitive
team for some of the larger tournaments in the region, BFHA sends selected
players to represent the Southeast Section. These players, together with players
from Washington, Mulberry, and Tidewater, comprise the Southeast sectional
team.
To summarize, the Baltimore Field Hockey Association (BFHA) is part of a tiered
system within the Southeast Section of the United States Field Hockey Association
(USFHA). This tiered system offers the following playing opportunities to
accommodate varying interests and levels of play:
